An avatar is a digital identity
An avatar can be entirely fictional and designed for a brand. Appearance, clothing, voice and delivery are agreed in a pilot. Calling an identifiable reproduction an avatar does not remove permission requirements.
A clone represents a specific person
A clone is useful when viewers need a particular expert or executive. It requires permission, suitable recordings and script approval rules. It must not suggest that the person personally said words they did not approve.
A host is a role within a series
An AI host can be a fictional avatar or an authorised clone. Hosting describes a role: presenting, explaining and connecting episodes. Mascots also need personality, visual rules and permitted topics. A character does not inherently support real-time conversation.
How to choose a pilot
For a new brand without a personal identity, consider an avatar. For recurring appearances by an expert, consider an authorised clone. For a continuing series, define the host’s role first. Evaluate fit, pronunciation, consistency and future production cost in the pilot.
